Almost nobody arrives with a tidy file. Prior periods get reconstructed, reconciled and closed so the monthly rhythm starts from something true.
- Catch-up. However many months or years behind you are.
- Reconstruction. We chase missing statements, place loose transactions, and empty the catch-all accounts.
- A clean opening balance. So every month after this one means something.

Worth saying plainly
Clean books are the floor, not the ceiling
A correct set of books tells you what happened. It does not tell you whether anything in it should worry you, and it will not tell you the loan stopped amortizing in March.
That is a different job, and it is the one we are actually built for. If you want someone senior reading your close every month and writing up what they found, that is the reviewed close.
If you just want the books right, this page is the right place and we are glad to do it.

How far behind is too far?
We have picked up books three years behind. It costs more and takes longer, and it is still cheaper than relying on numbers nobody trusts.
Do I have to leave my current bookkeeper?
No. Plenty of cleanups are a one-off on books somebody else keeps going forward. We will tell you honestly whether that is the right call.
Do you work in QuickBooks?
Yes, QuickBooks Online, and your file stays yours. You keep your own access the whole time.
What does cleanup cost?
Quoted once, apart from the monthly fee, after we have seen the file. We split them on purpose. You should see the cost to fix apart from the cost to keep it clean.
What if I need more than clean books?
Then you probably want the reviewed close, where a senior accountant reads the month and writes up what it means. Most owners who start here end up there. There is no pressure to.
